Anthropic commits ~20% of shares to new Public Benefit Fund, UBI speculation follows
scottleibrand · x · 2026-10-19
Anthropic announced the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned entity seeded with 5% of the company's shares, with up to an extra 2% added at board discretion for every 50% increase in company value above a baseline — roughly 20% of shares committed to public good in total. Both co-founders have pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and about half of employees are donating portions of theirs via a matching program. Commenters highlighted the fund's mention of "direct distributions to specific populations" as a sign Anthropic may be planning its own form of self-directed global UBI.
