Astera's Seemay Chou: journal review and open discussion won't stay separate processes
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-19
Responding to concerns around Doris Tsao's openly-reviewed work, Astera Institute founder Seemay Chou argued that technical review and open public discussion "aren't necessarily distinct processes" going forward, and that open dialogue shouldn't be delayed by journal gating. She acknowledged the risk of conflating rigorous review with hot takes but said journals never adequately solved that anyway, and given the pace of modern technology and science moving outside academia, journal gating won't stand the test of time.
