Microsoft's Horvitz: value-of-information-guided sensing remains wide open a decade later
erichorvitz · x · 2026-10-18
Microsoft Chief Scientific Officer Eric Horvitz shared a "future work" passage from a circa-2014 paper that proposed projecting weather forecasts further into the future and using expected value of information to guide sensing. He notes the forecasting follow-ups have been great, but using expected value of information to direct sensing remains wide open as a research problem.
