Writing instructor's meltdown: "LLMs are literally just spicy autocomplete"
Decent-Decision-9028 · reddit · 2026-10-18
A Reddit post shares a viral Threads thread (7.7K likes) from a writing instructor who studied the math behind LLMs to prep for an interview on AI in writing — and had a meltdown upon finding "it's not even hard math." Her takeaway: LLMs are literally just "spicy autocomplete," i.e., linear algebra, and she mocks people for worshipping it: "people think they found God and it is linear algebra."
The Reddit poster pushes back, arguing such reductionist analogies ("we're just atoms and molecules") are lazy anti-AI arguments that farm attention with pseudo-scientific framing.
