Anthropic report: junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9% as agent hours hit 6x human hours

Anthropic published an internal report on how AI is restructuring its own workforce:
- Junior share of technical headcount slid from 21% to 14% since early 2025; junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9%, with junior postings dropping sharply since December 2025.
- By August, interactive AI agent hours outnumbered employee hours 6 to 1.
- Per-person output rose: more code shipped, more sales closed per rep.
- About a third of ML managers and a fifth of SWE managers say AI has them hiring less.
- Human attention is now the bottleneck: reading all Claude agent output would take non-technical employees half their work week, spawning "meta-work" building dashboards and agent pipelines.
- Hiring priorities now emphasize autonomy and judgment over domain implementation skills.
