Open-source Open Machine turns plain ChatGPT chat into a full coding agent that runs your machine
LuozhuZhang · reddit · 2026-10-17
A developer released Open Machine, an open-source MCP tool that lets chat-style AI like ChatGPT operate your local dev environment via explicitly allowed tools: reading projects, editing files, running terminal commands, fixing bugs, and handling GitHub PR workflows, with optional Codex integration for browser tasks.
In an end-to-end demo driven by a single prompt, ChatGPT built a survival shooter game called NEON SWARM from scratch, ran 56 tests, fixed bugs it found, then opened a browser and played its own game—surviving the 60-second challenge with 4 HP left.
The author stresses OM doesn't bypass rate limits or unlock subscription features; it only makes existing AI tools easier to operate your machine. The project is open source with a Secure MCP Tunnel for local connections.
