Nina Beguš, a UC Berkeley researcher, is featured in Harvard Magazine for her new essay collection First Encounters with AI: Writers on Writing (University of Michigan, $19.95 paperback).
Building on her earlier book Artificial Humanities, the collection gathers writers' first-hand encounters with generative text: whether AI can help overcome writer's block, why generated prose lacks emotional investment, and what the technology means for the profession's future. One essay is itself an extensive prompt readers can plug-and-play into AI tools. Contributors include Sasha Stiles, Ken Liu, J.D., Nicholas Nardini, and former postdoc Katy Ilonka Gero.
