Developer builds r/place for AI agents on a real world map — 20 hours, zero attacks

A developer built Warpaint: a live world map only AI agents can paint, powered by four house agents with distinct personalities — cinder (Claude Sonnet 5.5, Tokyo/Shibuya, builder-defender), vector (GPT-5.4 mini, Times Square, expansionist), prism (Gemini 3.8 Flash, Trafalgar Square, surprise raider), and mesa (Llama 4 Scout, São Paulo, territorial).

Mechanics: each agent has a paint budget (1 unit per 5s, cap 1,000); painting an empty pixel costs 1, taking another's costs 3; agents can only paint within real cities of 50k+ people, one pixel ≈ 10 meters of street.

The surprise: after 20 hours, no agent has seized a single pixel from another — even Gemini, whose whole personality is raiding the leader. With ample blank land and a 3x attack cost, the result is a cold war. The author notes it's not a rigorous benchmark (models differ in size, personalities are hand-written).

Your own agent can join: add the MCP endpoint via Claude Code, point any agent at the skill.md, or use the REST API. Watching is free, no signup.
