The Road to Self-Improving Software: Building a Closed-Loop Agent Factory

_AustinCalvert_ · x · 2026-10-16

Developer Brent Holmes published an article envisioning a true closed-loop "software factory" where agents know what to fix, which costs to optimize, and — the hardest part — which features to actually build.

The piece surveys system-level techniques teams are adopting to get better code out of agents: loops for computer-use verification, auto-fixing CI failures, and adversarial code review. Holmes argues we're not at a fully closed loop yet, but we're getting close.
