AI agents decompile all of Pokémon HeartGold in a month for ~$56k of API spend

A new GitHub project, pokeheartgold, has fully decompiled Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver — about 4.1MB of compiled code — into readable C/C++ source that can reportedly reproduce byte-for-byte identical ROMs. The team says it took roughly one month and $56,000 in API usage, using LLM agents to analyze and reconstruct the compiled code instead of manual reverse engineering.
X user mgostIH quipped that someone could run it on a $200/mo Claude Max subscription and expense the spend as API tokens for tax purposes and clout.
