codex-mcp-hotload: a gateway that hot-reloads MCP servers during agent dev
Swimming_Ask3859 · reddit · 2026-10-16
Developer Praket7 open-sourced codex-mcp-hotload, targeting a common MCP development pain point: every code edit forces you to reload the MCP and host to test, wasting time and tokens and cutting Codex coding runs short.
How it works: it registers your in-development MCP as a child of the hotload gateway and can restart its servers at any time. Instruct your agent to register the developing MCP, and the newest tools show up in the chat for live testing — no need to stop a run or restart Codex. Currently Codex-only; the author asks whether to expand to other agent hosts. Available on GitHub.
