Google-led paper uses sequential auctions to organize decentralized LLM agent workflows
_onionesque · x · 2026-10-16
An arXiv paper by researchers including Ian Gemp and Jacob Eisenstein presents a framework for multi-step LLM tasks via a decentralized market of self-interested agents. Moving past the 'perfect clones' assumption of prior theory, it shows imperfect competition lets agents learn strategic bid-shading to keep positive margins while the market still solves collaborative tasks. Four bidding algorithms (Mirror Descent, Thompson Sampling, Bayes-Optimal, PPO) are evaluated across three auction protocols (1st-Price, 2nd-Price, Credit-Conserving Vickrey).
