Agent developers are sitting on unused API credits that can exceed actual usage
EnvironmentalDay8864 · reddit · 2026-10-16
A Reddit post highlights a hidden cost in agent development: every new capability (search, scraping, image, voice, enrichment) means a new provider with a minimum top-up. Projects end, balances sit idle, and some credits expire.
The pattern: minimum top-up exceeds need → light usage → project ends → leftover balance → partial expiry. Individually small, but across a handful of providers the idle credit can easily exceed what was actually spent on calls.
Common fixes: consolidating providers, requesting refunds, moving to a shared balance, or just accepting it as the cost of experimenting.
