No moat in coding models: they'll be sold at chip cost within years, industry voices argue

Patrick Toulme argues that the recipe for AI coding models (RL environments + compute) is widely known across Silicon Valley with no inherent moat, and predicts that within single-digit years most companies will use free AI coding models sold at chip-time cost. Frontier labs without cash-producing businesses will be forced to sell other forms of intelligence like biology and pharma. Meta's rbhar90 amplified the take, calling for more open source RL environments since closed-source secrecy is worse for long-term AI safety.
