Open-source HELIX Engine cuts coding-agent tokens 77.7% in 50-task test, solving 4 fewer tasks

A pediatrician who spent a year of spare time on it has open-sourced HELIX Engine, a context/memory/execution-management system that reduces redundant inference in coding agents without touching model weights or reasoning effort. Thesis: most agent spend goes to re-processing history and coordinating deterministic ops, not new reasoning.
Architecture
- Historical context retirement: completed tool interactions leave active context, originals recoverable
- Evidence preservation: tool results become compact typed receipts referencing immutable originals
- Deterministic tool flow: pre-authorized mechanical ops run through bounded workflows without model calls
- SQLite-backed persistent memory (optional Claude-Mem), RTK tool-output filtering, Electron monitoring UI
Results (50 SWE tasks, Sol 6.1 High, same model/effort): vanilla solved 38/50 on 50.7M tokens; HELIX V3 solved 34/50 on 11.3M — a 77.7% token reduction (4.49×), but +79 requests, +37% output tokens, and 4 fewer solves. The author admits capability parity is not established.
