Claude Code forced update drops folder grouping and visible context %, users push back
singular-sound · ghdev · 2026-10-15
A user managing 40+ local project folders filed an issue against anthropics/claude-code after a mandatory desktop Code tab update broke their workflow overnight with no rollback path:
- Sidebar "Group by folder" was removed in favor of "Environments" that are meaningless for local-only users; the app auto-created 8 environments that can't be deleted. The user hand-rebuilt grouping and wrote a plugin to restore session filing.
- Context usage percentage moved to a top-right panel that can be hidden entirely — previously it sat next to usage in the composer footer, a design the user calls excellent.
- Desktop mods can't draw in the moved locations; only an extra band above the input box works.
Requested fixes: restore folder grouping, always-visible context % in the composer footer, mod draw access, deletable auto-environments, and a rollback path or stable channel with advance notice for breaking changes.
