Claude Code 2.1.299 regression silently drops session.compact hook
RegiByte · ghdev · 2026-10-15
- Bug: Since Claude Code 2.1.299, the session.compact mod hook never fires — neither for manual /compact nor automatic compaction — though compaction still happens.
- Baseline: On 2.1.296 the hook fired before every compaction with trigger set to manual/auto; sibling hooks still work.
- Diagnosis: Reproduced via a socket listener; the 2.1.299 changelog mentions no change, so it looks like a regression.
- Extra: Forcing autocompact with CLAUDEAUTOCOMPACTPCTOVERRIDE=5 compacted three times in one turn with only SessionStart source=compact events.
- Impact: Tools reading session state via hooks miss compaction starts; mid-turn auto-compaction makes sessions look idle.
