DigiPet: open-source framework gives an LLM agent a cozy explorable desktop world
Nekileo · reddit · 2026-10-15
A developer open-sourced DigiPet (GPL v3), a desktop-pet-style framework that gives an LLM agent a stable, deterministic miniature world to inhabit, defined via customizable JSON manifests specifying layout, images, and items.
- The standout design is "situational" tool broadcasting inspired by affordances: items only expose their interactions and info when accessible to the agent (current room or inventory), filtering the tool pool on the fly to keep context lean.
- Example: sitting in a room with a TV on lets the agent toggle/browse it and auto-injects what's playing into context; leaving the room removes direct access (only memory of events remains).
- Pygame GUI, autonomous actions on a configurable timer (default 5 min), multiple local/cloud AI providers, plus external services like Bluesky, OpenMeteo, and XenoCanto.
