AI researcher pegs odds of robots replacing car mechanics at just 2-5% within 5 years

Responding to Tim Hua's claim that robots have a >10% chance of matching median human car mechanics within five years, AI researcher adamkarvonen puts it at only 2-5% and argues car mechanic is one of the hardest jobs to automate: it demands extreme dexterity done by feel alone, tolerates almost no mistakes (a small error can kill someone or destroy an engine), and requires on-the-spot improvisation — rusted bolts mean repairs rarely go "by the book." Hua adds that doing it at human-level cost is even less likely.
