Cutting Claude Code context from 98k to 40k tokens: a user's optimization notes

A Claude Pro newcomer shares how he burned through his weekly quota in 4 days because his PROJECTSTATUS.md exceeded 2,500 lines, loading over 98k tokens per session. He cut it to 40k tokens with Claude Code's help by: disabling unused internal browser and MCPs, removing unused skills, splitting Markdown files into 5 KB chunks, and archiving completed tasks and old info for on-demand retrieval. He's still unsure whether 40k is acceptable and asks for further tips.
