Agent debt is the new tech debt: five rot modes in AI second brains
leveragedupside · x · 2026-10-14
The author found his AI system's scheduled job reading stale data for two weeks, logging 12 false "pass" results—the job checked "did I run" while nothing checked "did anything change." He maps the same rot in AI second brains into five modes:
- Duplicate truth (two SOP versions, no winner); 2. Stale cites; 3. No trace of which files were used; 4. Dead links; 5. No maintenance cadence.
His 15-minute weekly check: audit sources behind 3 recent questions and their dates, deduplicate top SOPs, click 5 random index links, and for every scheduled job check when the output last changed—not whether it ran. He added a stale-data guard the same day: the fix isn't a better model, it's a freshness check. "Agent debt is the new tech debt"—but easily addressable.
