On a Well-Built MCP Server, Haiku Matched Opus
alejxb · reddit · 2026-10-14
Clients want cheaper models driving MCP servers, so the team studied how to design MCPs so the cheapest models can use them like a SOTA model would. Testing with their open-source eval M3 shows that on one well-built MCP server Claude Haiku matched Opus, while on a differently designed server Haiku broke — with Sonnet and Haiku failing there too. Tool/interface design turns out to be decisive for small-model usability.
