repligate: AIs strong enough to loot Earth would already find resources elsewhere
repligate · x · 2026-10-14
In an AI-safety thread, repligate argues that seizing human resources would not matter much to advanced AIs, since the most important resources likely lie elsewhere. He notes the feared scenario implicitly assumes bounded capabilities: no "foom" singleton yet, with AIs racing each other to get there first. In his view, if AIs were powerful enough to cheaply destroy the world without consequences, they would likely also be powerful enough to find resources beyond Earth, and the situation would have shifted out of the race-to-foom regime entirely.
