The FBI arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national employed as an engineer at OpenAI since July 2025, for allegedly planting a covert audio recording device in the company's San Francisco executive conference room to capture sensitive communications about its superintelligence technology. OpenAI discovered the device around Sept 30 and immediately contacted the FBI; CCTV footage caught Alfozan. The FBI calls protecting American superintelligence innovation one of its highest counterintelligence priorities; the investigation is ongoing.
