Solo dev built a 24/7 AI-generated TV network with Claude writers, running at ~$40/day

Reddit user matbox launched BBN (bbn.live), a 24/7 AI-generated TV network where cartoon anchors cover real news alongside sports, weather, debates, a sitcom, and parody ads.
How it works:
- An AI editor ranks stories, detects breaking news, and enforces coverage rules (personal tragedies stay out of the comedy pipeline)
- A 'director' picks what airs next, who presents, and in what format; a 'showrunner' handles blocks, callbacks, and teases, with story/dialogue history preventing repeated jokes
- Claude Sonnet does the main writing: for comedy formats it generates two competing scripts judged by another model, with winners passing repeat-joke and tone checks
- Production uses open-source TTS on a local GPU plus animation, captions, graphics, and camera cuts
Viewers can submit questions screened and answered on air. A backend 'Control Room' tracks drafts, decisions, and costs — currently $40/day; swapping in cheaper models for support tasks didn't justify replacing Sonnet writers/judges. Next: batch-producing 40-50% reusable segments to control costs.
