Cramer: annotate interface constraints in comments or agents will stomp over them
zeeg · x · 2026-10-14
Sentry founder David Cramer laid out his rule: a constrained, well-articulated public interface must be captured in the code somehow — comments, deterministic rules, anything — or the next agent session will stomp all over it.
- Comments should declare intent when it can't be obviously inferred; never annotate the obvious
- Second use case: annotate wrong patterns as wrong so agents follow the right one
- He suggests this belongs in an "are agents actually good at code yet" benchmark, and isn't optimizing for token cost
