'Obsolete' Author: The Scariest AI Future Is the One Where Everything Works as Intended
GarrisonLovely · x · 2026-10-14
Garrison Lovely promoted his new book Obsolete: The AI Industry's Trillion-Dollar Race to Replace Us—and How to Stop It in an interview with Mario Nawfal. While most interviews focus on extinction risk or whether the industry can actually build universal labor-replacing machines, this conversation examined the industry's best case: machines work and do what they're told — which Lovely argues is itself a pretty bad future for human labor.
He noted an immediate danger already emerging in cybersecurity, where increasingly capable models could let individuals launch attacks that once required entire teams of specialists. He remains more optimistic that the trajectory can still be stopped.
