Open-source Roblox Studio framework lets Claude hot-reload and self-edit its own plugin tools
rms80 · x · 2026-10-14
Developer rms80 open-sourced studiotoolssystem, a hot-reloadable framework for building interactive tools in Roblox Studio, with Claude handling much of the implementation.
- Only a small loader plugin is installed in Studio; the framework and all tools are Luau source files served by a local Node server. Saving a file triggers the loader to swap in new code—no plugin reinstall or Studio restart.
- Shared Luau libraries (e.g. geometry3luau) are installed into the loader from published GitHub releases, loading once per session.
- The author added an agent chat inside the plugin so it can edit itself, i.e. live-code its own tools and features via Claude/Codex.
He praises Roblox Studio's Lua scriptability, especially in-viewport 2D UI. MIT-licensed on GitHub.
