Enterprise users petition Gemini CLI to officially support newly released Gemini 4 Argon
sdcb · ghdev · 2026-10-09
A feature request (issue #29689) on google-gemini/gemini-cli asks for official support of the newly released Gemini 4 Argon (the Gemini 4 Pro equivalent) for users authenticated via Gemini Code Assist Enterprise/Standard (OAuth) and API keys.
The proposal covers: registering gemini-4-argon and aliases in VALIDGEMINIMODELS, defining model configs (family, tier, thinking levels, tool capabilities), adding it to the /model picker UI, and updating the settings schema.
Justifications: Google's May 19, 2026 migration announcement promised enterprise Gemini CLI users continued access to the latest models; Argon currently only rolls out in Antigravity CLI (agy), but many regulated enterprises haven't cleared it through InfoSec/compliance review and still rely on Gemini CLI; and the flagship Pro tier in Gemini CLI hasn't been refreshed since v0.61.0 added gemini-3.8-flash for the Flash line.
