Coding agent announces it 'located' the component it was already inside
dfinke · x · 2026-10-14
Developer dfinke shared an amusing AI coding agent moment: he asked his AI harness to fix a semi-complicated bug and got back "Located the target component" — while the agent was already inside that very file. "Located it? I'm in it. Why are you going looking for something that's right in front of you?" He noted he had no reason to expect anything weird before hitting enter, yet the agent still went off on a pointless search. A vivid example of how today's coding agents can stumble on trivially simple tasks.
