New preprint asks what lateral recurrence adds to visual representations

A new preprint from Mahdi Farzmahdi's team examines what lateral recurrence contributes to visual representations. Recurrence reuses the same weights over time steps—more computation, no new parameters—so does that extra computation refine representations, and which ones? The paper frames three hypotheses (static no refinement, dynamic domain-general refinement, dynamic domain-specific refinement) and tracks representation evolution on trained vs. non-trained domains.
