Paper: AI-written books flood Amazon, crowd out human authors' sales
TuhinChakr · x · 2026-10-13
A new AI & copyright paper by TuhinChakr with UMich, Stony Brook and Columbia's Jane Ginsburg used Pangram full-text AI detection to study self-published genre fiction on Amazon from 2023 to March 2026. Findings: Amazon is flooded with books containing substantial AI text that earn significant money and crowd out non-AI books. A book doesn't need quality to move the market—it just needs to exist in the thousands, which generative AI enables. French commentary adds that publishing is already consumed by AI, diluting human works in generalized overproduction.
