Stewart Alsop: craft isn't dying, it's moving up the stack to imagination and iteration
StewartalsopIII · x · 2026-10-13
Responding to takes that AI is killing craft, Stewart Alsop III argues it's just becoming more meta. Da Vinci's helicopter sketch took 500 years to become real; now the gap between imagination and physical object is shrinking to anywhere from 1 minute to 10 years depending on complexity. Craft moves up the stack: the skill is now imagination plus filling in details through lots of trial and error with LLMs' nonlinear mistakes. His advice: get tinkering.
