30-year engineering veteran: the CTO title will be gone within 18 months
RealGeneKim · x · 2026-10-13
An engineer with 30 years of software and leadership experience (@jmwind) argues the CTO title will disappear within 18 months, replaced by a "Chief Ambition Officer". In his view the bottleneck is no longer execution but knowing what to build, having conviction to bet on it, creativity, selling it, building communities, and assembling extraordinary small teams. The 10x engineer becomes the 10x team builder — something he admits he had backwards all along.
