Gene-editing pioneer: an LLM will zero-shot design clinic-grade editors within years
chaitjo · x · 2026-10-13
Fyodor Urnov, who has spent 23 years designing gene editors that reach the clinic, says he's certain that within a few years an LLM will do zero-shot design of clinic-grade gene editors, making him and many others moot. He ties this to mathematicians' current predicament, as OpenAI released findings on 377 math problems after a previous solution angered mathematicians, framing the new release as more responsive to concerns about AI disrupting research.
