IMF warns AI share crash now threatens global financial stability

The Guardian reports the IMF's half-yearly Global Financial Stability Report warns that an AI share-price crash rippling across markets threatens global financial stability. Sky-high AI valuations combined with mounting debt are cited as reasons systemic risks are "elevated."
"The consequences of an AI correction could be global" — Asian markets are most exposed outside the US, with the UK and euro area relatively insulated though investors with US exposure would still be hit. An AI crash is one of three "salient risks" alongside rising government borrowing costs and a major cyber-attack, all plausible near-term catalysts for sharp tightening. The report also flags the interconnectedness of big AI companies and the heavy borrowing funding sector investment.
