Developer says EU compliance turns AI coding agents into a 'EU token tax'
kevinkern · x · 2026-10-13
Developer kevinkern dubs it the "EU token tax": building EU-friendly apps means spending more time answering his agents' questions about licenses and GDPR than actually building the final release, including contacting Azure and AWS about EU-hosted compute for AI models. He notes Fable 5.1 is more forgiving while Astra keeps telling him to consult lawyers and tax advisors before deciding — all of which costs far more tokens.
