Anthropic researcher recounts conversion: frontier insiders converge on same AGI conclusions

An Anthropic researcher recounts his conversion: his Berkeley colleague Mike had long been skeptical of deep learning's trajectory, and most scientists need a big shock to break anchoring. He himself was a skeptic until 6 months ago, when a 20-year friend revealed he'd joined Anthropic and that the models were becoming increasingly capable — prompting his own join.
Quoting amplifier abhiadesai adds an observation: roughly the 5,000 people Karpathy cited as truly touching the frontier have all converged on roughly the same conclusions, with no dissenters in that group — a notable signal in itself.
