Opinion thread: app vendors used to sell and support code; now that AI makes code nearly free to create, only support remains — and that's a poor business. The author argues infrastructure is the only remaining way to make money in apps: earning the right to run the workload lets you sell networking, compute, storage and inference. His conclusion: app-layer vendors are woefully unprepared for this shift.
