Jeff Holden on microscale manufacturing: giving compute a micron-scale body
anselm · x · 2026-10-12
Kevin Kelly amplifies Jeff Holden's concept of Microscale Manufacturing: extending micro-manufacturing from the one mastered corner (semiconductors) to the whole grid — micro-machines in every domain, in whatever materials physics allows, in true 3D. The key claim: compute already lives at microscale; what's missing is a body for it to direct. Build machines at the same scale and the sense-process-act loop closes inside a single microns-long package, whether compute shares the die or sits beside it.
