WorkOS Launches auth.md, an Open Spec Letting AI Agents Sign Up and Deploy Without Humans
AI Engineer · youtube · 2026-10-12
WorkOS founder and CEO Michael Grinich argued at AI Engineer World's Fair that as agents run for hours and choose their own tools, signup flows—forms, CAPTCHAs, API key copying—assume a human and block legitimate agents, and MCP auth still needs a person in the loop.
He introduced auth.md, an open spec built on OAuth standards: a declarative file telling agents how to register. In a live demo, an agent read Cloudflare's auth.md, proved its identity with ID-JAG, got a temporary account, and deployed an app with no human signup. He also argued payment should follow usage rather than gate signup. The spec is open-sourced on GitHub.
