anthropics/skills PR fixes skill-creator YAML frontmatter parsing that mangled skill descriptions
BichengWang · ghdev · 2026-10-10
A PR to anthropics/skills fixes parseskillmd, which manually stripped quotes and joined continuation lines, corrupting SKILL.md metadata: plain descriptions lost closing quotes, escaped quotes stayed escaped, and literal blocks lost line breaks — feeding wrong metadata into eval and description-optimization commands.
The patch uses yaml.safeload, requires mapping/string metadata values, raises ValueError on invalid YAML, and adds regression tests for scalars, comments, block folding/chomping, and malformed input.
Validation: all 5 new tests pass (upstream fails 12); all 20 repo skill files parse with content preserved; offline integration checks pass. Requires PyYAML, already used by the validator.
