EIA forecasts record US electricity generation in 2026-27 as data center demand soars

The EIA's September STEO projects US electricity generation will grow 2.2% to a record 4,368 billion kWh in 2026, plus another 1.7% in 2027, driven largely by data center development and manufacturing. Gas holds at 40% of the mix, coal drops from 17% to 14%, and solar rises to 9% by 2027.
