GPT-6.1 Sol turned a specific UI bug into a $200/mo babysitting session
Split-Signal · reddit · 2026-10-10
The author had a precise UI bug—timeline Begin/End markers where End→Begin worked but Begin→End didn't—and just needed the model to trace execution. GPT-6.1 Sol instead wandered into unrelated date-editing code, jumped to an unverified lazy-rendering theory and rewrote the scrolling implementation, then reverted on pushback only to guess again. The actual fix was a tiny target-positioning tweak. The author, paying $200/mo for ChatGPT Pro, says they want autonomy after understanding, not autonomous patching in place of understanding.
