Charakuru turns one illustration into a VRM avatar with Codex driving Blender
lxfater · x · 2026-10-10
Japanese creator Nano has released Charakuru, a free open-source kit (officially sponsored by Tripo) that turns a single full-body character illustration into a riggable VRM avatar with an AI agent as your assistant — no Blender skills required.
- Division of labor: the user picks models, adjusts proportions, and reviews the result; GPT-6.1 Sol / GPT-6 Astra computer use handles image generation, Tripo 3D mesh generation, then Blender rigging, hair and clothing physics, and export
- Ships as a local app plus 7 agent Skills, packaging the author's modeling workflow into a reproducible process
- Pauses at every judgment point for human confirmation, avoiding the tradeoff between low-quality full automation and high-skill manual work
- Fixes Tripo-only character issues: broken faces, odd motion, dirty textures
Open source on GitHub (368 stars), still in active development.
