Google adds "Code Comprehension" interview round: debug a real codebase with Gemini, and catch when it's wrong
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-10
Google has updated its engineering interview process with a new round called Code Comprehension: candidates are dropped into a 200–500-line codebase with Gemini available for use.
The round evaluates three things: whether you can read someone else's code, whether you can debug independently before reaching for AI, and whether you can catch when Gemini is wrong. Many see this as a signal that classic LeetCode-style interviews are fading.
