LLM reliability #4-5: abstaining gracefully and controlling context quality
goyalshaliniuk · x · 2026-10-10
Parts 4-5 of goyalshaliniuk's LLM reliability series:
4. Handle uncertainty gracefully — teach the system to ask clarifying questions, flag missing information, abstain when evidence is insufficient, and escalate high-impact decisions. A reliable system knows when not to answer.
5. Control context quality — more context doesn't mean better answers: retrieve relevant info, remove duplicates, prioritize authoritative sources, keep instructions clear. Better context often matters more than bigger context.
