As verifiable model capabilities commoditize, engineers have 4 ladders left to climb
himanshustwts · x · 2026-10-09
Engineer himanshustwts argues that as stakeholders push models toward verifiable domains (as happened with coding), few ladders remain for humans to hill climb. His list:
- Communication skills — prompting and talking to humans in general
- Domain/business understanding — being both a good engineer and equally good at understanding the business has huge downstream reward
- Using models effectively — figuring out which models fit your use cases; build your own evals if you care
- Take a chill pill — absorb the noise and spot where the most value generation is
Core thesis: as verifiable tasks flatten model gaps, human differentiation shifts to judgment and business understanding outside the model.
