Three years of r/ChatGPT: 100k posts show Reddit as an early-warning signal for AI impacts

In an ICML 2026 paper summarized on the Free Systems newsletter, Jessica Dai's team analyzed over 100k r/ChatGPT posts across three years. They found ChatGPT rapidly normalized as an everyday consumer tool woven into routines, while emotional engagement with it emerged as an increasingly compelling use case. The findings suggest social media could have served as an effective early-warning signal for major early safety issues. A companion site updates daily with new data.
