ReClip: Self-hosted Open-source Downloader Hits 10.7k Stars, No Ads No Tracking
thisguyknowsai · x · 2026-10-09
ReClip is a MIT-licensed, free-forever self-hosted media downloader that has racked up 10.7k stars and 1.6k forks on GitHub. Paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, or 1000+ other sites (powered by yt-dlp) and grab it as MP4 or MP3.
Key features:
- Quality/resolution picker, bulk downloads, automatic URL deduplication
- Clean responsive web UI with no frameworks and no build step; backend is a single 150-line Python (Flask) file
- Only two dependencies: Flask and yt-dlp — the whole project is auditable in one sitting
Motivation: every "free" downloader site monetizes via ads, popups, redirects and fingerprinting. ReClip has no business model, no premium tier, no telemetry — your downloads stay on your machine.
